Business in the Community, BITC programme links Mercy with businesses in our community to provide students with a unique insight into the world of work.
We are currently linked with the company ‘Workday’ who have supported our TY students throughout the year, giving them opportunities such as learning about the company and linking with employees to hear their stories and experiences and to consider careers and further study options available to them when they finish school.
BITC programme teaches students skills for future work through various workshops which involve a site visit to Workday, CV writing workshop, mock interviews, day in the life insights from workday employees, skills at work, coding and presentations.
This is an invaluable experience to give students that one step ahead!
“We enjoyed the site visit as this session was laid back and fun, it was good to see real working life in action. We were treated and valued like employees in the building and really enjoyed the lunch with employees. This gave us a real insight into working life.”
“We improved our leadership and communication skills during our experience with workday and feel more prepared for our future now. It has been very inspiring and motivating to take part in this programme.” - TY students of Mercy 2018-2019
Overall, the skills at work and student mentoring programme promote the ethos of Mercy as it strives to encourage students to stay in school, increase their self-esteem, broaden their mindset for future opportunities while developing an awareness of the workplace.
